We are saddened for your loss. Mr. Thornburgh was a great friend to my father. I remember wonderful times spent with the Thornburgh family at so many Thanksgivings growing up. We appreciate his kindness, generosity and the generosity of his family. He opened up his home to us and made us feel welcomed. I am sorry I could not make it to his Memorial. My thoughts are with the family that made us feel like family. Warmest sympathies, Helen

John was one of my favorite "relatives."We talked endlessly about his travels and he inspired me to visit Turkey, which is one of the most interesting places I have visited. He was blessed with a wonderful family. My heart and prayers are will them all.

I've known Fred since ACU-4 and want to send my condolences to the family for their fathers passing. In reading the obituary you can tell he had a great life and family.

I will always remember Uncle John as a wise, gentle man. My thoughts and prayers go with all my Thornburgh cousins. Losing a wonderful father is hard, and you all had a very good Dad. He will be missed.

One of my fondest memories was a trip to knoxville with Mom to celebrate her being named a centennial leader for the university. Your Dad met us and I was privileged to watch them reminiscing about growing up together and we went to both the cottage and the N Lake cabin. I'm wishing I'd had a tape recorder now. Love and hugs from Memphis
