I just heard the news of Ricky's passing. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I worked with Ricky over a couple of years on the SC committee where he added so much fun. There is less laughter and fun in the world today. I'm thinking of all of you.

Ricky was truly a gentleman and a scholar. I worked with him ~17 years ago at the Pacific Northwest National Lab and engaged in many deep discussions on various topics. One thing he loved to do, in his overalls and wearing his black framed glasses held on with an elastic band, was let someone think he was a low ranking person at the lab and then watch the look on their face when they realized he was the one running the show. Seeing that moment always brought a grin to his face. I will always remember his big smile and hearty laugh. He will be missed.

I've know Ricky for well over 20 years, back to his days at PNNL. He has always been such a good friend and an all around great guy. His honesty, humility and humor far outwiegh how amazingly gifted he was technically as a computation scientist. He will really be missed by many. Our prayers go out to Angie and the rest of his family...best regards -- Pete & Brenda Ungaro

Words cannot express the sorrow of Ricky's passing. He was an amazing person-always made me smile. He was so proud of his family and the youth bowling league. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I knew Ricky through the Cluster Challenge at the Supercomputing conferences. Ricky, and his colleagues, put a lot of heart and soul in organizing that event.

My memories of Ricky will be of a fun, thoughtful, and always helpful friend.

My condolences to his family. I will miss Ricky.

I was a student that worked at Ames Lab and had an HPC class with Ricky. He was a real hoot and if nothing else was completely honest about the quality (or lack thereof) of my work. I'm very saddened to hear about this, especially at this young age.

My condolences.

I knew Ricky from almost the moment he started his PhD, when I was working at NASA Ames. Angie will probably not remember me, but she and Rick looked after me when I spent most of a week in the tri-cities (Ricky was part of the T-shirt event that Thom Dunning staged...) in around 1990. We used to meet at various conferences, like Supercomputing, over the years. I can't do better than the Australian description: he was a mate. He was a mate, and that's a phrase that's been discussed as an inclusion in the Australian Constitution. I can't say more, other that I'm desolate at the loss of a mate.

I am saddened to learn of Ricky's death. Although he was not in my group at ORNL, he was in my directorate and I knew who he was and his reputation. I know he will be sorely missed.

Ricky, I will always remember visiting you at PNNL and Ames, and learning what a real truck was! It was a privilege to have shared these times together and an honour to have co-authored a paper with you. You will be missed.

Angie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Ricky was a very special person. I will never forget Friday night pizza after bowling, the one liners being tossed back and forth during Nationals in Reno, and camping up at Williams Lake. He will be missed.

John and I are so sorry for your loss. We are grateful for what a wonderful friend and mentor Ricky was for Rebecca and her family in Oak Ridge. She always spoke so highly of him and his family. We will be thinking of you as you celebrate Ricky's life.

A hole has been ripped in my heart. My dearest friend has left this world.
Angie, you and the boys were the center of Rick’s world. I hope you can sense him in an early spring rain as the raindrops land gently on your face or as the first warm breeze of spring overtakes you, because he will be there, Always. I will be wearing my overalls while I light a huge bonfire in my back yard this weekend to honor the memory of one of my oldest and dearest friends.
