Martha D. Golden, born on February 7, 1929 went home to be with the Lord and other members of her family on March 10, 2010. She was a faithful and active member of Oak Valley Baptist Church. Ms. Golden was employed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory where she worked for fifteen year and then retired. She was a member of the Excelsior Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was the Chairperson of the Golden Girls Hospitality Committee of the Oak Valley Baptist Church. She served as a Poll Worker for Anderson County Election Commission. Mrs. Golden was Treasurer of the Guiding Light Circle and a volunteer worker for the former YWCA. Mrs. Golden enjoyed cooking, sports, and soap operas and spending quality time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Willie B. Golden Sr., son, Johnny E. Golden, parents, Robert and Irene Dowdell, brothers, Johnnie Lee Dowdell, Robert Dowdell and George Dowdell and Sisters, Mattie Dowdell and Dorothy Philpot.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Willie Golden Jr. (Alma); 2 devoted daughters, Patricia G. Cleveland (Rev. Henry Cleveland) and Lavonne D. Golden all of Oak Ridge; Grandsons, Derrick Golden (Tammalynn) of North Carolina, Rev. Michael Cleveland (Britney) and Chavez Golden of Oak Ridge. Surviving brothers and sisters are Lindsey Dowdell, Mary Threat and Willie Pearl Faison of Oak Ridge and Rev. Leamon Dowdell of New York; Brother-in-law, Eddie B. Golden of Clinton and Sister-in-law, Emma Lou Sutton of Oak Ridge. She also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews in addition to some very special friends, namely Jackie Jackson, Elsie Cox and Charlene Witherspoon. Her Church family will also miss her.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 12:00 -1:00pm at Oak Valley Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 1:00pm with Rev. Hardil Thomas officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Chavez Golden Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the ORNL Federal Credit Union.
