James (Jim) Albert Walsh, 83, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at his home. He was born in Trenton, Missouri on February 11, 1934 to Elaine Thompson Walsh and James Herbert Walsh. Jim attended school in "St. Joe", graduating from Central High School in 1952. Jim met Joyce White in 1953. In 1955 Jim graduated with an associate's degree from St. Joseph Junior College, married Joyce and took up studies at Kansas State in Manhattan Kansas. In 1957 Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Jim and Joyce moved to Oak Ridge. Jim worked at K-25 from 1957 until 1991.
Jim Walsh exemplified the extraordinary ordinary hero; the man who goes to work and loves his wife and kids. Jim and Joyce raised two sons, Tony and Tim. He devoted his time and energy to his family and his friends. He was always there at every football, basketball and baseball game, every swim meet and scout outing. He served on the board of Boy Scout Troop 129 for 11 years, and a special highlight was the annual summer camps at Land Between the Lakes.
He loved to read, and was especially interested in World War II and the Civil War. He was a long-suffering fan of the Atlanta Braves and the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Jim leaves behind wife Joyce, sons Tim and Tony, Tony's wife Ann, and his grandchildren Anderson and Abigail.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside service on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 1:30pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Pastor Chester Caudill officiating. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
