James Edward Keeton of Oak Ridge died May 1, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Keeton graduated from the School of Engineering, Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Mississippi State College. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and was recognized for Outstanding Service as a Quality Assurance Coordinator who served the Chemical Technology Division for over 41 years.

He was born in Meridian, Mississippi, the son of Mattie Belle Herrington Keeton and Lawrence Edward Keeton.

He was president of the Oak Ridge Lions Club, served as a Stephen Minister for First United Methodist Church and on the Board of Home Aide Service. He was also on the Board of MADD, and he was the owner of Keeton Building and Supply and Keeton Enterprises.

He was a true southern gentleman who was devoted to his wife Doris Marita Keeton, by whom he had been married to for 54 years at the time of her death.

Together they attended plays, operas, and Knoxville Symphony events as well as being members of Oak Ridge Music Association and Oak Ridge Dance Club.

Mr. Keeton was preceded in death by his wife Doris Marita Keeton and by his sister and brother-in-law Quida and Bill Schimmel

Survivors include:
Sons, Robert Keeton and wife Barbara of Farragut;
James Keeton, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Goodlettsville, TN;
Daughter, Carroll Welch and husband John W. of Oak Ridge;
Grandchildren, Jennifer Owen and husband Andrew of Wichita, Kansas;
Kellie Keeton of Appleton, Wisconsin; Billy Welch and wife Jill of Knoxville.
Great-grandchildren, Eleanor and James Owen and Wyatt Welch; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
