Steve Jenkins, of Oak Ridge, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at age 67, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve grew up in Middlesboro, KY where he became a life-long University of Kentucky basketball fan. He enjoyed nothing more than watching and attending U.K. games with his children and grandsons. He graduated from Clinton High School (1967) and the University of Tennessee (1971).
After beginning his career in finance at Carson Newman College, he moved his family to Oak Ridge where he began a 26 year career at the City of Oak Ridge as Finance Director and Deputy City Manager. After retiring from the City in 2012, he took a finance position at ETHRA in Knoxville making many new friends who very caringly supported him through his illness.
Steve was a core member of Faith Promise Church, attending the Pellissippi Campus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Gwen Hodge Jenkins.
He leaves a loving family including his wife of 43 years, Judy; daughter, Kristen Jenkins Shubert (Jason) of Knoxville; son, Josh Jenkins (Meghan) of Nashville; Granddaddy's precious grandsons, J. J. and Isaiah Shubert; step-mother, Melba Jenkins Greer (John); sister, Karen Hopkins (Russell); brothers, Dwight Jenkins (LeeAnn), Kelly Jenkins, Lynn Jenkins (Sharon); sister-in-law, Nancy Whittaker and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5 – 7pm at Faith Promise Church, Pellissippi Campus. The funeral will follow at 7pm with his brother, Pastor Dwight Jenkins officiating. Family and friends will meet on Saturday at 10am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith Promise Church, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice. Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
