Gerald J. (Jerry) Bryant went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 7pm surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Samuel and Julia Bryant, born in Jefferson City, TN on May 23, 1939 and raised in Oak Ridge, TN. He was 77 years old. Jerry graduated from Oak Ridge High School where he was co-captain of the 1956-57 TN State Champion Oak Ridge football team. He was also a champion golden gloves boxer for the Oak Ridge Elks club.
Jerry married his high school sweet heart Linda Lou Hardy and was happily married for 58 years. The couple had two children, Jim Bryant and Tammy Bryant Watson and three wonderful grandchildren.
After graduation from high school Jerry joined the United States Marine Corp and later was transferred to the United States Air Force where he served with distinction as part of a nuclear missile launch crew during the Cuban missile crisis while stationed at Vandenberg AFB in California. After discharge from the military he joined the NASA space program where he worked on computer systems for the Apollo space missions. He was hired by Digital Equipment Corporation and promoted to southwest area vice president of software services for Digital which was the world's second largest computer company at the time of his retirement. He then returned to Tennessee and was hired as the Spring City, TN city manager and worked as the Tennessee state director of United We Stand America under Ross Perot.
Jerry regularly attended and served at church and was a deacon at Glenwood Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.
He is survived by his wife Linda Bryant; son Jim Bryant; daughter Tammy Lynn Watson and sisters, Pat Lankford and twin sister Geraldine Watson; his grandchildren, Amanda Bryant Jackson, Miranda Bryant Wickles and Linda Marie Watson.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Vandervelder and Betty Nelson and his brother Joe Bryant.
Jerry was a man of great faith, honor and integrity, loved by all who knew him. He died from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 4th from 12 noon until 1pm at Weatherford Mortuary, 158 S. Jefferson Circle in Oak Ridge. A memorial service will follow at 1pm. The services will be officiated by Pastor Andrew Osakue of First Baptist Church Concord, TN. He will be interred at Anderson Memorial Gardens, in Clinton, TN, where he will receive military honors at the graveside.
