Pelea Emma Meador, 83, of Oak Ridge TN, died on February 3, 2010.
Mrs. Meador was born Feb.14, 1926, in Rockwood, TN, to the late Theodore H. and Myrtle Atchley Peters. Pelea had worked as a clerk in the instrument training section at K-25, and as secretary of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Oak Ridge Utility District, and Mid-South Pavers. Mrs. Meador had been an active member of First Baptist Church since 1951, serving 9 years in the children's dept. during the early years of the church and had held several other offices in the church including Chairman of Christian Care Committee, President of her Sunday school class and Keenagers, and substitute teacher in adult III dept. She had been a member of the Oak Ridge Women's Club where she served as Chairwoman of the Arts and Crafts Section. She was a member of the Arissa Garden Club, serving as Treasurer. She was an artist who painted historic buildings, scenes, and wildflowers in watercolor and had been a member of various art groups, including workshops with Jim Gray. She loved poetry and has written poems as well as articles for various occasions. In addition to her art she had many interests including growing flowers, wildflowers, sewing, cooking, handwork, and decorating. She enjoyed books on poetry, astronomy, and geology, having written poems, psalms and stories for various occasions. Her love of family, church and homemaking were the most important things in her life. She was predeceased by her husband, John T. Meador, by three brothers; James L. Hall of Rockwood TN, Theodore H. Peters, Jr., and George E. Peters of Dayton OH; and first husband Arville M. Billings, Sr. of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Meador is survived by her son, Arville M. Billings, Jr. and his wife Genois Palmer Billings of Oak Ridge; granddaughters Cindy Ann Billings of Soddy-Daisy and Dr. Barbara Jean Currier and husband Bobby, of Knoxville; great-grandchildren Alexander Billings, Meredith Woodfin, and Miranda Woodfin of Soddy-Daisy, and Joseph Currier of Knoxville; brother John E. Peters and wife Opal of Manchester TN; sister-in-law Wilma J. Peters of Dayton OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Receiving of friends will be Saturday Feb. 6, from 12:00 – 2:00pm at First Baptist Church, Oak Ridge. The funeral is at the church at 2:00pm with. Rev. Tim Borchert will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood TN. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the First Baptist Church Agape Center.
