Joan Van Riper died on February 2, 1010. She was born on October 30, 1933 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Margaret Broderick and Michael Geoghegan.

She graduated with a degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1955. She worked for Lockheed Martin in the Research Library from 1987 until 1998.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Christopher Van Riper, brothers, Dr. Thomas Gahagan and Daniel Geoghegan, nephew, Brian Geoghegan, and niece, Ann Gahagan.

She is survived by her daughter, Claire VanRiper-Geibig and her husband, Jack Geibig, and their children, Joseph and Sarah, of Knoxville; her sons, Thomas Van Riper of Rockville, MD and Peter Van Riper and his wife, Kristin, and their sons, Finnbarr, Cormac, and Conan of Washington, DC; her sister, Rita Jeakle of Rochester Hills, Michigan; brothers, Dr. Michael Geoghegan of Canton, MI and William Geoghegan of Highland, MI; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010, 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Bill McKenzie officiating. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: The Vasculitis Foundation, PO Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188-8660.
