George M. Maestas, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, at home surrounded by loving family members.
George was an active parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church, of Oak Ridge.
Born in El Rito, New Mexico on December 27, 1936, George was the son of Pete and Elena Vigil Maestas. He retired from Bechtel Jacobs in 1998 as an Industrial Hygienist. George was a veteran of the United States Army and a 4th Degree Member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Father McRedmond, Council 3175. He was also a Charter Member of Pope John Paul II 4th Degree Assembly 2920, and was also a Double Star Council Winner.
George was the beloved husband of Betty Ann (Elizabeth) Trujillo Maestas, whom he married June 7, 1969 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, UT. He was the beloved father of 3 children: Paul Maestas and his wife, Christie (Forest Duncan Jr.-Huntsville, TN) of Clinton, TN; Rebecca and her husband Kevin Fosberry of Mount Pleasant, SC; and James Maestas and his wife Jennifer of James Island, SC. He is survived by 4 grandchildren: Bradley Long, Kevin Michael Fosberry, Helena Elizabeth Fosberry, and Ella Maestas. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Gilbert Maestas and his wife Adela of Los Lunas, New Mexico; Rudy Maestas and his wife Dorain of El Rito, New Mexico; and Eddie Maestas and his wife Connie of Chimayo, New Mexico. He considered his cousins Tony Maestas, Sharon (Jerry) McPolin, Gordon, Alice, and Dave Maestas extended siblings; and their parents, Aunt Mary and Uncle Abe, second parents.
George's family will receive friends at Weatherford Mortuary (158 S. Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge TN) from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 27, 2012 with a rosary at 7pm. Funeral services will be Friday September 28, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church (327 Vermont Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN) with Fr. Dustin Collins as Celebrant accompanied by Fr. Bede Aboh. Interment to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park (1501 Bethel Valley Road) with military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Mary's Catholic School, Elementary Education (327 Vermont Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830).
