Paul  Garrett

Retired TVA Employee, Army Veteran
Paul Garrett, age 87, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at his home.
He was born January 20, 1925 in the Cartecay community of Ellijay in Gilmer County, GA., the son of William B. and Mary L. Anderson Garrett.
Mr. Garrett was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Campaign in Italy during WWII.
Mr. Garrett worked six decades in construction. In addition to working early in his career in Oak Ridge, Mr. Garrett was employed throughout the eastern United States, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Ascension Island in the South Atlantic. He retired after 15 years of service with TVA at the Kingston Steam Plant.
He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union Local 102. Mr. Garrett enjoyed reading and farming and he was also a history buff.
He made his profession of faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 45 at Churchwell Avenue Baptist Church in Knoxville under the ministry of the Rev. Curtis Waters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Mary L. Anderson Garrett; sisters, Ethel Walter, Elsie Garrett, Jewell Garrett, and Mary Lois Brooks; and brothers, James and William Garrett.
Survivors include his loving wife of the home, Faye Greene Garrett; and four nieces and five nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, 158 South Jefferson in Oak Ridge. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Robert May officiating. The graveside service will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Full military honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard.
Pallbearers are Ryan Garrett, Patrick Burnett, Jim Garrett, Darel Pickenpaugh, Bill Brooks, and Tom Brooks.
A special note of appreciation to Paul's caregivers, Dr. Helen Vodopick, the nurses of PCM and Mr. Robert Kendrick.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries, 418 North Broadway, Knoxville, 37917.
