Shirley Mae Cherry
Long-time Oak Ridge Resident
Shirley M. Cherry, 77 of Oak Ridge, died Sunday. February 28, 2010 at home. Mrs. Cherry was born on June 8, 1932 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Emma and Hassell Cherry. She was united in marriage to the late Calvin C. Cherry, Sr. May 1, 1946. Mrs. Cherry was a member of Scarboro Church of Christ. According to her family, she was a strong devoted, compassionate, and loving mother. Before her illness, she loved cooking, shopping, and traveling.
Mrs. Cherry leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted family:
daughters, Barbara (June) King, Emma (Charles) Bell, and Sandra Cherry, all of Oak Ridge, Nancy Watkins, Atlanta, GA, Shirley Jack and Betty Cherry of Kansas City;
sons, Calvin Cherry, Jr., Bernard Cherry, Reginal Cherry of Oak Ridge; and Toney (Vickie) Cherry of Atlanta, GA;
sister, Marie Cherry, Maryland;
brother, Hassell Cherry, Jr., Knoxville;
devoted brother-in-law, Willie Frank (Devoya) of New Bern, NC.
She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, a special cousin, Charlene Weatherspoon, cousins, and friends.
The funeral will be held at 1 P.M., Tuesday, March 9th at True Light Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN, with Pastor Darris Waters officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 P.M. at the church.
